Job Summary:   The purpose of this role is to provide support to designated programs, Program Coordinators, and Instructors. The Programs Assistant is ultimately responsible for assisting in the safe implementation of Woodlands Programs and its activities, and data collection with the goal of enrichment in the lives of those which the foundation serves. The Programs Assistant works with assigned Coordinators and Instructors to ensure that participants reside in a clean, healthy, and safe environment while supporting and attending to participant needs and to provide overall support to program activities and to foster each participant’s development in the Woodlands Five Program Goals (Recreation, Socialization, Independence, Self-perception, and Health and Wellness).

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in implementing age and ability specific programs that are designed to achieve desired results of WFI Participants.  Assists in providing assistance needed to meet participant and program goals.
  • Assists in implementing program schedules.
  • Contributes toward and takes ownership of ensuring positive experiences and relationships with college/university students volunteering, or conducting hands-on learning experiences here at Woodlands.
  • Encourages and supports the socialization needs and skill development of each participant.
  • Ensures the ongoing safety and well-being of all participants and adherence to all policies and procedures.
  • Adapts program activities, assignments, and/ or materials under the direction of the Coordinator or Instructor.
  • Maintains instructional materials and files/ records as needed.
  • Participates in the implementation of behavior plans for the purpose of ensuring effective and safe participation.
  • Performs clerical tasks for the purpose of helping the Coordinator or Instructor prepare the instructional materials.
  • Provides instructions under the supervision of the Coordinator or Instructor to the participant.
  • Maintains positive and professional relationships with program participants, family members, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Promotes the services of the foundation to individuals, family members, and community agencies, and identifies potential participants, user groups, and program opportunities.
  • Works with other Program staff to continually review and improve the program to ensure appropriateness and value.
  • Supports and carries out the philosophy, goals, objectives, and mission of the organization.
  • Ensures safety of all staff, adherence to all policies and procedures, and compliance with guidelines by regulatory agencies.
  • Assists with all aspects of program delivery, including the personal care of the participants as needed.
  • Manages foundation resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Advocates for persons with disabilities.

 

Qualifications:

 

Required:      High school graduate or equivalent

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Flexibility in scheduling
Act 33/34/73 (upon hire)
Must be able to lift and physically manipulate an individual.
Ability and interest in working with children/adults with disability
Ability to pass a Drug Screening
CPR/ First Aid/ AED certification

 

Preferred:

Degree or pursuing degree in health and human services field
Experience working with individuals with disabilities
